Is all garlic good for you?

Is all garlic good for you?

Garlic has been known for it’s health promoting properties for thousands of years.

With decent amounts of Vitamin C, B6 and Manganese, garlic is a sulphur powerhouse containing properties that support immune function and aids detoxification in the body.

And it tastes good!

It’s fragrant aroma is a common base for home cooking, and in restaurant meals and health tonics.

But is all garlic good for you?

Sadly no.

Garlic can be produced with significant pesticides and toxic chemicals (such as methyl bromide and chlorine) which remain with the garlic after harvest.

These additives create a toxic cocktail in a small bulb that’s supposed to promote health.

Direct responses can include headaches, joint pain and respiratory distress.

These toxins are challenging for the body to remove and longer term consequences can include cognitive dysfunction, arthritis and inflammatory conditions.

Local farmers focused on soil health and growing quality fresh produce explain that none of these chemicals are needed to grow garlic.

So, what are your options?

Buy organic, locally grown garlic (imported garlic is not well regulated),

Source from a local, small scale farmer, growing respectfully without all the chemicals, or

Grow your own!
